A Revival Rooted in Authenticity
At the centre of this revival is a simple idea: to create something by windsurfers, for windsurfers. As strategist and marketing lead Dan Macaulay explains, “It’s about connecting the dots and bringing together the most passionate people I know — people with different skill sets but the same love for windsurfing. Authenticity is everything. We’re creating something that truly resonates with the community — something original, something real.”
Dan’s career has been defined by that authenticity. As the founder of Brandwave Marketing, he’s spent nearly two decades helping some of the world’s leading sports brands communicate their essence. But Windsurfer Magazine, he says, is something different — a passion project. “Windsurfing has shaped my life. It gave me confidence, community, and a career. This magazine is a chance to give something back — to celebrate the sport that’s given me everything.”

The Return of Print
In a digital world of fast-scrolling and fleeting attention, Windsurfer Magazine makes a powerful case for print. “Nothing compares to holding a physical magazine in your hands,” says Macaulay. “It’s timeless. It’s identity. Digital content is brilliant, but it’s transient. A print magazine lets you pause, absorb, and come back to it. Windsurfing has never looked better than in a high-quality double-page spread.”
That belief is echoed by Tris Best, Editor of the new publication and a lifelong ambassador for the sport. Best has dedicated his career to windsurfing — as an instructor, RYA Trainer, and co-founder of The Official Test Centre (OTC). “For me,” he says, “this magazine is about providing a platform the whole community can be proud of. It’s about creating something that captures windsurfing’s beauty and depth — not throwaway content, but something timeless that does the sport justice.”

Designed by Windsurfers, Shaped by Experience
Bringing the visual world of Windsurfer Magazine to life is Lucas Meldrum, 2023 UK Wave Champion and Design Director. A professional competitor and trained graphic designer, Lucas bridges two worlds: “I grew up reading the old windsurf magazines,” he says. “To now help design a new one — to put my own style into something that feels meaningful and permanent — is really special. Social media moves fast, but a magazine gives space for images and stories to breathe.”
For James Cox, digital craftsman and standout wave sailor, the magazine’s website and online presence will ensure it connects seamlessly with today’s readers. “The magazine represents freedom and adventure — that same feeling we all chase on the water,” he says. “It’s about keeping that spirit alive and giving people a place to connect. I see the magazine as something that will help us stay focused on what really matters — the wind, the waves, and the community.”

Fuelled by Passion
Perhaps no one embodies that spirit more than Oli Sargent, the magazine’s seed partner and the driving force behind its rebirth. “I learned to read through windsurfing magazines in the 90s,” he recalls. “They were my window to the world — I knew every story, every sail number. When the magazines disappeared, something important went with them. Windsurfer Magazine isn’t about competing with Instagram or YouTube. It’s about recapturing that original excitement — inspiring young windsurfers and reminding the older ones why they fell in love with the sport.”
Sargent’s love for windsurfing runs deep. A lifelong devotee of the sport and collector of vintage boards and sails, he sees the new magazine as a permanent record of windsurfing’s people and stories. “There’s something special about being able to pick up a magazine and see the community reflected in it. You can’t put an Instagram post on your wall — but you can frame a magazine cover. We need to keep that dream alive.”

By Windsurfers. For Windsurfers.
More than just a publication, Windsurfer Magazine is a statement — a belief that windsurfing deserves to be celebrated with care, creativity, and permanence. It’s a magazine that honours the pioneers while shining a light on the next generation. It’s a coffee-table-quality celebration of windsurfing’s past, present, and future.
As Best puts it, “It’s about identity. It’s about being able to say: this is my sport. This is what I love. And this — this magazine — is what it looks like.”
