Gold, Grit & Gratitude: A Dream Realised at the 2025 iQFOiL World Championships
By Emma Maguire.
Under the shifting skies of Aarhus, where the breeze danced with nerves and the stakes couldn’t have been higher, the 2025 iQFOiL World Championship came to a close with a dramatic medal series finale. And when the foam settled and the leaderboard locked in, one sailor stood atop the world — not just as a champion, but as a testament to perseverance and passion.
Emma said: “It feels like it’s been a long time coming,” the newly crowned World Champion said, still soaking in the moment. “I doubted whether it was going to happen… so to actually do it — yeah, it’s amazing.”
The medal series was far from smooth sailing. A crash in the first race might have rattled many, but not this athlete. “I just told myself, don’t give it up. Use your speed. And in the end, it worked out well.” It was a rallying cry built not just on physical strength, but years of resilience — the quiet kind forged in winter training sessions, comeback regattas, and the mental grind of elite sport.
Behind every medal is a village — and the gratitude poured out as freely as the champagne on the podium. “There are so many people who’ve helped me get here. All the coaches I’ve had throughout the years, my family, my friends who stuck by me. There’s no way I could do this without them.”
The story doesn’t stop at gold. It echoes in every young sailor watching, wide-eyed, from the slipway or livestream. When asked what advice they’d give to those kids inspired by this journey, the message was simple but profound: “Keep chipping away — but never lose the love for the sport.”
“I think that’s what I’ve always kept — the fact that I enjoy it. Sometimes in training I just go mess around, have a good time. I think that’s so important.”
And what’s next? A well-earned mix of both business and beach. “I actually go to LA on Sunday for two weeks, then I’m going to take a holiday. After that, I’ll get back into training. But for now… I’m just going to enjoy this.”
From chasing gusts to chasing dreams, the 2025 iQFOiL World Champion has proven that belief — paired with blistering speed and a buoyant spirit — is a force no headwind can stop.
