If you’ve ever wanted to dip your toes (or dive right in!) to the world of windsurfing and winging, The Official Test Centre (OTC) in Portland is the place to do it. And this autumn and winter, there are some fantastic Royal Yachting Association (RYA) courses lined up that you won’t want to miss.

RYA Start Windsurf Instructor
Dates: Friday 3rd – Tuesday 7th October 2025
Perfect for complete beginners or those who’ve had a taster session and want to build confidence, the RYA Start Windsurfing course covers all the essentials. You’ll learn how to control the sail, steer, and get moving across the water — all with the support of friendly, qualified instructors. By the end of the course, you’ll have the skills to windsurf safely and independently, opening the door to a lifetime of adventure.
RYA Winging (Wingsurf & Wingfoil) Instructor
Dates: Monday 6th – Friday 10th October 2025
Winging is the fastest-growing watersport — and it’s addictive! The OTC’s RYA Winging course introduces you to both wingsurfing (using the wing on a stable board) and the exhilarating next step: wingfoiling. You’ll learn how to handle the wing, balance on the board, and (if you’re ready) start flying above the water on the foil. With flat water and steady winds, Portland Harbour is the ultimate training ground.
RYA Wing & Windsurf (Combined) Instructor
Dates: Monday 1st – Thursday 4th December 2025
Can’t decide between windsurfing and winging? This combined course gives you the best of both worlds. Over four days, you’ll split your time between the two disciplines, giving you a taste of each and the freedom to discover which sport you love most. It’s the perfect introduction for those who like variety, challenge, and a whole lot of fun on the water.
