Emma Wilson: “Anything is possible” as Long Beach gold fuels home World Championship dream

British windsurfing star Emma Wilson heads into the iQFOiL World Championships in Weymouth full of confidence after producing a dominant display to win gold at the Long Beach Olympic Classes Regatta.

Emma topped a world-class fleet with a week of remarkable consistency before sealing victory in a challenging medal race.

Reflecting on her latest success, she said:

“Super happy to take home the win after a super consistent week. Finishing it off yesterday with a physical, light and shifty medal race.”

The result is another significant milestone in a season that has included both highs and lows. After a frustrating European Championships where the performances didn’t translate into results, Long Beach was a reminder of the standard Emma knows she can achieve.

Looking back on that journey, she said:

“I think I just learned that I can still do it haha! After the Europeans it was hard, I didn’t feel like I sailed that badly but I just couldn’t put results on the board, so to bounce back from that I’m really proud.”

Emma was also quick to acknowledge that success in elite sport is never achieved alone.

“Huge thank you to everyone who has helped me get this far and keeps believing and pushing me to be better.”

She expanded on that gratitude by recognising the people behind every race she sails.

“There are so many people that make this all possible, my family, sponsors, coaches, the team at British Sailing – there’s no way I could do it without any of them, so I guess I’m just grateful that people want to help me.”

World Class performance

With the California regatta complete, Emma will now take a short break before turning her attention to the biggest event of her season.

“Next up a little rest before getting ready for the World Championships at home.”

She added:

“Yeah, I will take this week easier, get over the jet lag and probably play around on the wing. Then I will start getting back into training. I’m looking forward to getting back to it.”

There is extra excitement this year, with the World Championships taking place at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, one of Emma’s favourite venues.

“I think it’s just a really cool experience to have the World Championships at home. I love sailing at Weymouth and to have the best in the world come experience it, I think it will be pretty cool for everyone involved.”

Despite arriving on home waters as the Long Beach champion, Emma is keeping her goals simple.

“My main goals are just to try to sail at the level I know I’m capable of and enjoy it.”

The World Championships will be the final event of an intense campaign before she finally gets the chance to recharge.

“We just have the World Championships left this season so I will put everything into that and then have a nice break before the season starts very early next year.”

For Emma, the medal may be gold, but the message behind it is even more valuable.

After battling disappointment, rediscovering confidence and proving to herself that she belongs at the very top once again, she hopes her journey encourages others facing their own challenges.

“I would just say anything is possible even when it doesn’t feel like it sometimes. I think as long as you’re enjoying it, and learning from each experience, that’s the most important thing.”

It’s a powerful reminder that success isn’t measured only by podiums. It’s about believing in yourself through the difficult moments, learning from every setback and never losing the joy that first inspired the dream.

As Emma returns home to Weymouth wearing another gold medal, she does so carrying not just the hopes of British sailing, but a message that resonates far beyond the water: anything is possible.
